Healthy cooking on a stone.

Healthy cooking on a stone..

The basic principle of stonegrilling, rock retaining and emitting heat, has been round for yonks, like a millennia, with early humans cooking their wild antelope or tyrannosaurus rex on a prehistoric stone pit AND you can experience this ancient tradition firsthand at the Southern Cross. In its modern application stonegrilling involves a slab of volcanic granite heated to over 400 degree Celsius in a special kiln, which is then brought straight to your table sizzling with your selected main… whether that be steak, organic tofu, halloumi cheese, prawn tail and yellowfin tuna kebabs or a lamb rack… for you to cook and carve.

At The Cross the experience will set you back the price of a regular main, $17 to $30 bucks, unless you’re up for the $60 Taste of The Cross, which entails three cuts of red meat, kebabs, grilled flatbread, dips, smashed olives, pickled onions, piccalilli, vintage cheddar, cream crackers, devils on horseback, crispy corn cakes, popcorn seasoned with smokey BBQ salt, creamy coleslaw and a choice of either fries or mashed potatoes… massive…

But the best bit about the stonegrill at The Cross is that it is available as part of the bar menu everyday, throughout the entire venue and it is healthy… there is no oils needed whatsoever… win.
