BOOM-BOOM (But not in your room)

BOOM-BOOM (But not in your room).

In my humble opinion, on a worldwide scale, Wellington is a city which is pretty up with the play. And working along this line of logic, one of the things we’re really good at is celebrating diversity without wandering into cliché; especially when it comes to music.

So, falling directly under this light, come Friday, there is some seriously diverse musical celebration going down at The Garden Club on Dixon Street, where from 10pm, for a measly fifteen dollars (on the door) – you can have a full smorgasbord of interesting underground world music talent, of local, or semi-local origin.

As an appetister and palette cleanser, holding down the wheels of streets (aka the turntables and CD-Js) between acts, and before and afterwards, you have Wellington’s favourite modern music gypsy, DJ Kava. The kind of DJ who will cover a mixture of club music, soul, weird world freakouts and beyond, often within ten minutes; when Kava is at the controls, respect the unexpected.

For your main course however, there will be three separate dishes, the afro-futurist hip-hop rhythms of Olmecha Supreme, the funkified groove metal of recently reformed late 90s/early 2000s Wellington icons Residue, and the expansive afro/latin fusion sounds of The Jineteros, house band for your host with the most, and the event organiser, Cuban reggaeton artist Jinetero MC (of Positive Vibration).

The name of the show? Musica Boom-Boom, a more then apt description of what these act’s musical instrumentation and physically visceral grooves will do to your body, if you’ve still got a pulse that is! To be completely frank, between all of the acts listed on this bill, you’re looking at some of the more unique, yet danceable musical experiences you can have in Wellington this side of an Orchestra of Spheres gig. Do yourself a favour and check out Musica Boom-Boom; you won’t regret it!
