New on Cuba

New on Cuba.

My flatmate and I are on a mission to wear less black, something I reckon most of Wellington has tried and failed to do at some point! Just take a look around you next time you pop out on to the streets – we look like a bunch of fans going to an All Blacks game. In heels. So it is timely that Munro Clothing has opened on Cuba Street, between Ghuznee and Vivian Street.

What I really love about these clothes is that they are all top quality, with a mix of colours and pattern. The merino in their current winter collection is in a myriad of colours, from a sapphire blue to a terracotta and all in simple cuts to make your basics cosy and sassy at the same time. There aren’t a heck of a lot of different styles, but the styles they do have in stock are timeless, yet cool, so you’ll get a good lot of cost per wear out of whatever you buy – a recessionary necessity I guess. Boring, but true! One of the staples of the winter collection is a good hoody, made in merino with hoods lined with stunning patterned cottons. The shop stocks clothing for children, women and men, with most styles offered for all sizes.

In the photo and in abundance in store, are some damn comfy looking undies. The latest take on local favourites Thunderpants, they’re made of a whole heap of patterned cotton knits – if you’re still keen on your black outerwear then maybe this is a way to get a bit more colour in your life.

It really is great to see another independent fashion company open up shop on Cuba Street. It got a bit worrying with the chain stores encroaching onto lower Cuba Street for a while, but viva la Aotearoa fashion! Take a walk down the street now and you’ll have your pick of talented local designers. Who is your favourite at the moment?
